Discover the cultural crossroads of the Balkans on this enriching short break based in Skopje, North Macedonia’s vibrant capital. Staying at the centrally located Alexandar Square Boutique Hotel, this solo-friendly holiday combines free time in the city with two carefully chosen group excursions, offering the perfect balance of independence and shared experiences.
Venture beyond Skopje to explore the UNESCO-listed lakeside town of Ohrid, famed for its Byzantine churches and crystal-clear waters, before crossing the border into Kosovo to experience the striking contrast between modern Pristina and historic Prizren. With private airport transfers included and group tours led by expert local guides, this holiday is ideal for solo travellers seeking comfort, culture, and connection.
Our solo traveller holidays are thoughtfully designed with your comfort and ease in mind. We carefully select hotels that cater to solo guests, ensuring a welcoming and secure atmosphere. Private transfers are arranged upon arrival, so you’re always met by someone when arriving in a new place. To help you get to know your destination, we include group tours where you can meet fellow travellers and explore together. We understand that dining solo can sometimes feel challenging, so we've curated restaurant recommendations to ensure you can enjoy meals in great spots, with confidence, even when dining alone.

Arrive in Skopje and transfer privately to your hotel. Check in for 3 nights at the Alexandar Square Boutique Hotel, ideally located close to Macedonia Square, the Old Bazaar, and the River Vardar.

Today join a full-day group excursion to Ohrid, one of North Macedonia’s most beautiful towns and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a scenic drive through mountain landscapes before arriving at the shores of Lake Ohrid. Explore the charming old town with its cobbled streets, historic churches, and impressive views from Samoil’s Fortress. There is free time to stroll along the lakeside, browse for traditional Ohrid pearl jewellery, and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Skopje. In the evening we recommend Restaurant Skopski Merak – a much-loved local institution serving traditional Macedonian dishes in a relaxed, informal setting, making it ideal for solo diners wanting an authentic experience. This morning depart on a full-day group tour to neighbouring Kosovo. First visit the capital, Pristina, where modern life blends with history at landmarks such as Mother Teresa Cathedral, Skanderbeg Square, and the Old Bazaar. Continue to Prizren, Kosovo’s cultural capital, often described as an open-air museum. Walk through its historic centre to see mosques, churches, the Stone Bridge, and traditional craft shops. Enjoy free time around the lively Shadervan area before returning to Skopje. We recommend heading to La Terrazza Restaurant on Macedonia Square, this Italian-Mediterranean restaurant is perfect for travellers who enjoy people-watching and a lively yet comfortable atmosphere. Enjoy a free morning to explore Skopje at leisure. Perhaps visit the Old Bazaar, cross the iconic Stone Bridge, or enjoy a relaxed coffee in Macedonia Square. Later, transfer privately to Skopje Airport for an evening flight back to the UK. (B)
