Established as Lithuania’s first national park in 1974, Aukstaitija National Park has traditionally been popular with Lithuanian holiday-makers.
The area’s protected status helps to promote the sustainable use of an important landscape: shelter for the rare plants and forest animals, better recreational facilities for visitors and the continuation of rural occupations. Aukstaitija is a park of lakes, 126 of them, and it is these interconnected lakes, with their vast array of ancient trees and unrivalled vistas that make a holiday to Lithuania truly memorable.
