Set mid-way along Lebanon’s coastline Beirut has the glittering Mediterranean on one side and inland the snowy peaks of Mount Lebanon. The one-time playground for celebrities is fighting its way back after the devastating civil war which saw much of the city destroyed. It has literally been through the wars as is evident when you walk by the bullet riddled buildings in the capital.
Now shiny new buildings sit alongside the older colonial architecture and a few ancient ruins are tucked away amongst old neighbourhoods teeming with life from a nation who live life to the fullest. Beirut has a lively nightlife and its fantastic dining scene.
