Picture-perfect Goriška Brda (Gorica Hills) is a tiny wine-producing region in the west of Slovenia, nestled between the Slovenian Alps and the Italian border.
It's a charmer, reminiscent of Tuscany, full of rolling hills topped with small Medieval settlements and churches, its hillsides lined with vineyards and orchards. A visit here is very likely to involve wine, with 140 boutique wineries tucked away amongst the hills, and excellent food incorporating the array of seasonal produce this region produces.
Hiring an electric bike to explore the hills, picnicking in a vineyard or taking a 'wine safari' are some of the ways to enjoy this enticing region.
