With a population of 47,000 inhabitants, Lulea is the biggest city in Lapland.
Lulea is one of the best gateways to Lapland thanks to its busy airport and good bus and train connections.
It is an excellent place to rest either side of a trip further north and the UNESCO World Heritage site, ‘Gammelstad’, is just down the road.
Taking a flight to Lulea is an excellent way of arriving in Swedish Lapland. Lulea airport is just 10km southwest of the city and the train and bus stations are barely 5 minutes’ walk from each other, at the eastern end of the town centre.
