Tripoli is a city where modern and medieval blend easily into a lively and hospitable metropolis.
Known as the capital of the north, Lebanon’s second largest city, was founded by the Phoenicians in 800 BC by the federation of Sidon, Tyr and Arados Island, which why it is known as Tripoli or “the three cities”.
The city has many historical monuments such as the Crusader Fortress built by Saint Gilles in the 12th century, the Great Mosque, Taynal Mosque, Madrassahs, Khans and souqs. Where tailors, jewellers, perfume-makers, and soap-makers work in surroundings that have changed very little over the last 500 years.
