This immersive tour is designed for those who enjoy a slower pace, cultural depth, and a balance of major highlights and lesser-known experiences. With a small group size (maximum 12), it’s well-suited to curious travellers who value thoughtful planning, good company, and time to enjoy each destination properly.
Travelling by bullet train, coach, and on foot, you’ll take in Japan’s finest autumn scenery and most atmospheric towns - from Tokyo’s mix of tradition and trend to the artisan streets of Kanazawa, the peaceful alpine beauty of Shirakawago, and the temple-studded hills of Kyoto. You’ll cruise past Mount Fuji, relax in an onsen ryokan, and witness a tea ceremony with a Kyoto geisha. We’ve taken care of all logistics, transfers, and guided experiences, so you can focus on the journey itself.
Arrive in Tokyo and meet our local representative, who will guide you to the airport shuttle for a smooth transfer to your hotel. This first day is all about settling in and getting your bearings. As you travel into the city, you’ll get an early sense of Tokyo’s scale - modern, efficient, and full of contrasts.
Start the day with breakfast at the hotel before heading out on a full-day guided tour of Tokyo by public transport - a great way to experience the city like a local. Begin at Owakudani, a dramatic volcanic valley where steam rises from the earth and the landscape feels otherworldly. Continue by ropeway, gliding above the treetops and volcanic terrain for sweeping views of the region. Weather permitting, catch sight of Mt. Fuji’s iconic silhouette, a striking backdrop to Hakone’s natural beauty. End with a peaceful cruise on Lake Ashi, where calm waters reflect the surrounding hills and shrines. It’s a day of fresh air, striking scenery, and a very different side of Japan. (B)
