A culinary experience with an Arctic twist! We start the tour with a stop at the newly opened Svalbard Bryggeri. Enjoy a taste of the locally produced beer, as well as the full story of what it is like to run your own brewery at 78 degrees north. Continue through Longyearbyen pass old cultural sites from the early inhabitants of Svalbard. Our next stop is also a new highlight, The Greenhouse, Polar Permaculture, where you can taste some of the herbs produced right here.
The gap between the mining class and the company’s officials was great during the days of Store Norske Spitsbergen Kullkompani (SNSK). The miners lived close to the mines themselves, in simple accommodation. The administrative team lived in Haugen, where Spitsbergen Hotel is now located. The historical cellar, where the miners came to collect their quota of alcohol, has now been renovated for Champagne tasting, and boasts one of Norway’s largest selection of these precious bubbles. Enjoy a sample from their collection. The last stop on our guided tour will be at “Fruene” where we’ll hear the story how the world’s northernmost chocolate is made - and of course enjoy some of the tasty confections.
