Kathmandu’s Durbar Square

Begin your exploration with Kathmandu’s Durbar Square, Kasthamandap Temple and the House of the Living Goddess. Stroll the vibrant old bazaar before visiting Swayambhunath, the ancient “Monkey Temple”, perched above the valley with its iconic Buddha eyes. After lunch, visit sacred Pashupatinath on the Bagmati River and the magnificent Boudhanath Stupa - one of the largest in the world - surrounded by colourful prayer flags and monasteries. Fly to Paro and meet your Bhutanese guide on arrival. Drive to Thimphu, stopping en route to visit Tachogang Lhakhang, a temple famous for its prayer flag-draped iron bridge. In the evening, explore Tashichho Dzong, the impressive fortress-monastery that houses the King’s office and central monk body. Originally built in 1641, it was later rebuilt by Bhutan’s third king. Explore Thimphu’s rich culture and sights at your own pace. Visit Kuensel Phodrang (Buddha Point) to see Bhutan’s largest Buddha statue overlooking the valley. Discover Simply Bhutan, a living museum supporting local youth and culture, and the Royal Textile Academy preserving traditional weaving. Stop by the Memorial Chorten, a peaceful Buddhist stupa, and the Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s national animal. THIMPHU TO PUNAKHA

Drive about three hours to Punakha, Bhutan’s former capital, enjoying beautiful countryside views. Stop at Dochula Pass (3,150m) for tea and snacks with stunning Himalayan panoramas on clear days. Visit the Druk Wangyal Khangzang Chortens, 108 white stupas honouring the King’s leadership. Then, take a gentle 20-minute walk through rice fields at Messina village to Chimi Lhakhang, the “Divine Madman” temple, known for its playful phallic symbols reflecting his unique teachings. PUNAKHA TO GANGTEY (PHOBJIKHA)

Start with a visit to Punakha Dzong, a stunning fortress at the meeting point of the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers, rich in history and spirituality. For an additional charge, you can choose to enjoy an early picnic lunch at the peaceful Ati Picnic Spot within Pemako Punakha, offering a serene outdoor dining experience surrounded by the beautiful Punakha Valley. After lunch, drive about three hours to Phobjikha (Gangtey), a glacial valley famous for black-necked cranes. Take a gentle one-to-two-hour hike along the Gangtey Nature Trail to enjoy meadows, village views, and the crane feeding grounds. (B, L, D)

PHOBJIKHA TO BUMTHANG VALLEYS
Trongsa Dzong

Today’s drive takes five-six hours, offering unforgettable views. Leaving Gangtey, the road climbs to Pele La Pass (3,300m) and winds through forests and cliffs. You’ll spot Trongsa from afar, where we visit Trongsa Dzong and its museum with great views. Then, continue to Jakar in Bumthang Valley, crossing Yotong La Pass (3,425m). Bumthang is known for weaving and its spiritual valleys. Overnight at Six Senses Bumthang. Alternatively, enjoy a camping retreat with cultural programs, meditation, and monk blessings at an additional charge. (B, L, D)

BUMTHANG VALLEYS
BUMTHANG VALLEYS

Bumthang is a region of great cultural and spiritual significance, comprising four major valleys: Choskhor, Tang, Ura, and Chhume. The Choskhor Valley, also called Bumthang Valley, hosts important temples and dzongs. Visit Jakar Dzong, Bhutan’s largest, Kurjey Lhakhang with Guru Rinpoche’s body print, historic Jambay Lhakhang, and Tamshing Goemba founded by Pema Lingpa. Also explore Wangduechhoeling Palace Museum and Cultural Center. Time permitting, visit the local cheese factory and other attractions. (B, L, D)

BUMTHANG TO PARO
Paro Rinpung Dzong

Fly business class from Bumthang to Paro, or opt for a helicopter charter with a scenic 20-minute tour (surcharge applies). Paro Valley, home to ancient monasteries and temples, lies beneath Mount Jomolhari. Visit Ta-Dzong, Bhutan’s first National Museum, and Paro Rinpung Dzong, a Kagyu Buddhist stronghold. Taktshang Goemba, Tiger's Nest Monastery, Bhutan

Embark on the iconic Tiger’s Nest Excursion to Taktsang Lhakhang, perched 900 metres above Paro Valley. Optional horse rides are available to the midway cafeteria (surcharges apply). After exploring, enjoy lunch on the descent. Later, visit the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, a 17th century fort built to celebrate Bhutanese victory over Tibetan invaders. KATHMANDU
The Golden Gate in Bhaktapur Durbur Square in Nepal

After an early breakfast, drive to Nagarkot, renowned for its breathtaking Himalayan sunrise and sunset views. Enjoy a gentle three-hour hike through villages and rice fields to Changu Narayan Temple, one of the oldest temples in Kathmandu, dating back to the fourth century, with stunning stone carvings and sacred Hindu icons. Afterwards, transfer to Bhaktapur for lunch and explore its medieval art and architecture, including the Lion Gate, Golden Gate, and Palace of Fifty-Five Windows. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with a cultural programme at a traditional Nepalese restaurant.
