Take a beach break with a difference and visit the attractive, sleepy Russian resort of Svetlogorsk. Perched on the beautiful Baltic Coast, Svetlogorsk enjoys a long, wide sandy beach perfect for sunbathing and swimming as well as hunting for the amber that is regularly washed ashore. The town itself is exceptionally pretty with its spacious streets set amidst pine trees, flower gardens and grand wooden villas.
You’ll be kept entertained and well indulged by the decent number of alfresco bars and cafes, buzzing nightclubs and reasonably priced restaurants serving fresh, local cuisine, while the convivial atmosphere created by the large number of holidaying Russians here is perfect for soaking up some culture and brushing up on the local language. Slightly further afield is the intriguing city of Kaliningrad, easily reached from Svetlogorsk via a local train, with its unique mixture of Germanic and Soviet architecture.
