Tiraspol is Moldova’s second largest city and capital of the breakaway communist republic of Transdniestr. Predominantly Russian, Tiraspol is a curious place where the Soviet spectre still looms large and the Transdniestran desire to separate itself from Moldova couldn’t be made clearer. Take a stroll up and down 25th October Street and see Soviet structures and monuments, such as a tank and Lenin statue, and head into one of the pleasant parks before visiting one of the enlightening attractions here such as the House of Soviets and the War Museum.
