Located close to Torne River at the border between Sweden and Finland, Arthotel is a collection of Swedish country houses that the owner Gunhild Stensmyr, has lovingly renovated to create a boutique hotel in an area of stunning natural beauty. The Arthotel Tornedalen is adorned with arts and handicraft inspired by the stunning countryside surrounding the house.
There are a few options to choose from and each house is named after the previous families. Stay in Villa Tolonen, which can accommodate between 2 and 6 persons in a lovely Scandic-chic designed house. There is an open plan dining and living room complete with a contemporary wood fire, as well as a fully fitted kitchen. Upstairs you will find two double bedrooms with two extra beds in a large hallway/library between the two bedrooms. Step outside to your own private wood-heated sauna, and explore the walking and ski trails leading from the door to the secluded forests nearby.
Villa Wennberg is the main building of the Arthotel and there are 2 double rooms and 2 single rooms all with en-suite facilities. Downstairs a living room with an art library and mini-bar that lends itself to cosy evening inside and a dining room for all the houses.
The third house Villa Anundi is a solitary house located in a forest glade, over 2 kilometres away from the other houses so is ideal for those guests seeking absolute silence and solitude. Search the night skies for the Northern Lights dancing amongst the glittering stars. Scout for elks, foxes, hares and reindeers as they could be just around the corner. The villa has a fully-fitted kitchen so it's a great option for self-catering holidays during summer months too.
From the door of each house there is a private walking/skiing trail straight into the forest, grill facilities and an architect-designed lookout tower two-kilometres from the houses.
