Tour Itinerary
Arrive in Iceland, collect the hire car and drive to Hotel Rangá for a four night stay. Around a two-hour drive from the airport, the remote log cabin-style retreat can be found just off Route 1, near the small town of Hella. After a day of travelling, perhaps relax in one of the hotel’s natural outdoor hot tubs, keeping an eye out for the aurora borealis overhead. (140Km)

Head out in the hire car to explore some of Iceland’s most spectacular scenery. Perhaps start with the incredible natural wonders of the Golden Circle including thundering Gullfoss waterfall, historic Thingvellir National Park and the bubbling hot springs at Geysir where mighty Strokkur erupts twenty metres into the air every few minutes. Active Mt.Hekla and the glacial rivers of Thórsmörk are also within an hour’s drive. (B) (250Km)

Perhaps consider driving to Iceland’s southernmost village Vík, where the black sand beaches make for spectacular coastal views. En route, be sure to stop at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, where it is possible to walk behind the gushing torrent of water. In the evening head out into the countryside surrounding the Rangá to search for the mysterious northern lights. (B) (170Km)

Choose to drive to the Lava Centre (5Km from the Hotel Ranga) and learn more about volcanic activity, earthquakes and the creation of Iceland over millions of years, or head further afield, driving three hours along the south coast to the incredible floating icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon (550Km). Drive back to Reykjavík, perhaps stopping at the hot spring town of Hveragerdi en route, or driving via Flúdir to take a dip in the Secret Lagoon natural hot springs. Return the hire car in Reykjavík and check in to the Hotel Reykjavik Centrum for three nights. (B) (110Km)
