The coastal province of Milne Bay sits south of Port Moresby and list as some of its neighbours the Trobriand Islands, the Conflict group of Islands and the Samarai group of Islands. The province is home to 160 named islands and 500 cays scattered through the ocean many offering world class diving and snorkelling. Milne Bay was an important location during WWII as the site of a large naval base and many WWII relics remain on land and submerged in surrounding waters offering excellent opportunities for wreck diving. From the provincial capital of Alotau explore further afield to discover remote Melanesian village life as well as volcanoes and thermal pools. Milne Bay is also host to the small but interesting Kenu and Kundu Festival which takes place annually in November.
