Stockholm's historic Gamla Stan district

Welcome to Sweden! Upon arrival, pick up the hire-car and drive into Stockholm. The remainder of the day is free to explore this beautiful city. Stockholm is filled with interesting sights including the popular Vasa Museum, the Royal Castle and the historic district of Gamla Stan.

Viking burial mounds in Gamla Uppsala

Today, discover Uppsala, one of Sweden’s oldest cities, renowned for its universities, its magnificent cathedral and the legacy of botanist Carl Linnaeus. There are many historically significant sights here, including the first university in Scandinavia which was founded in 1477, as well as Gamla Uppsala where over 300 Viking burial mounts can be found. Drive north along the coast and enjoy the views across the archipelago. We recommend a stop to explore Gävle, the oldest town in the Norrland region. The journey continues into Dalarna. A fantastic landscape paired with living traditions and customs, festivals and craftsmanship. Consider a stop in Falun to see the world heritage listed copper mine or visit Sundborn, the of Carl Larsson Farm, one of Sweden's biggest tourist attractions. (B)

Stunning Lake Siljan

Enjoy the day at Lake Siljan and explore the area. Lake Siljan is the seventh largest lake in Sweden. The town of Leksand sits on the southern tip of lake Siljan and around it lie some fifty villages that you can visit on four different trips; North, South, East and West. There are sights to see, handicrafts to be admired and regional delicacies to be sampled. As well as lots of great places for stop offs and bathing spots for dips. (B)

After breakfast drive along the late to Torsby. We recommend a visit to the workshops in Nusnäs where the brightly coloured Dala horses are still carved today. Watch how these beautiful wooden horses are carved and painted by hand. (B)

Near Torsby

Torsby is an ideal starting point for many activities and excursions: Hike through the forest region Finnskogen or along Sweden's longest river Klarälven. If you like skiing, you have the chance in Torsby's year round ski tunnel. A special highlight for young and old is a guided visit to the moose park to visit botht he king of the woods and the alpacas that live there. (B)

On the road to Karlstad

Continue the journey today by driving southwards to Karlstad. The route travels across scenic landscapes and goes through Sunne along the way. Consider riding on the boat bus along Karlstad's inner-city canal or try one of the water sports available here. We recommend taking a stroll along Kungsgatan which offers an abundance of cosy restaurants. (B)

Picturesque Canal in Västerås

Today, take the road along Lake Vänern to Örebro. Consider stopping to enjoy one of the walks here to take in the lake's  beautiful surroundings. Spend some time in the picturesque city of Örebro, which its charming city center, interesting castle and great shopping. Afterwards, drive to Västerås. Here, we recommend exploring the Cathedral, the open air museum and the Anunsshög Viking Burial Ground - the largest of its kind in the country. (B)

Drottningholm Palace

Enjoy a short drive back to beautiful Stockholm. Consider a visit to the Drottningholm Palace, Sweden's best-preserved royal palace constructed in the 17th century, and the permanent residence of the royal family. Don’t forget to enjoy a fika break with a hot coffee, delicious Swedish cinnamon bun and meet with the locals in the city. (B)

The day is free until it is time to bid farewell to Sweden and fly back to the UK. (B)
