Spend the day exploring the natural highlights of South Iceland, setting out from your hotel in the morning. The famous Golden Circle is the highlight of any Iceland fly-drive, with its incredible natural wonders. Visit the Geysir geothermal fields where explosive Strokkur blasts water over 30 metres into the air, explore ancient Þingvellir National Park and experience the thunder of Gullfoss waterfall where icy waters plummet into a deep canyon. After dark, search for the elusive aurora far away from any light pollution in a peaceful rural setting. (B)
On Iceland’s south coast, the Atlantic Ocean crashes onto iconic black-sand beaches like Reynisfjara, which you can visit today. Make a pit stop in the picturesque village of Vík, where you’ll find a beach that was voted one of the 10 most beautiful beaches on Earth by Islands Magazine. There is no landmass between Vík’s beach and Antarctica, so take a moment to stop and try to fathom the enormous amount of ocean that lies before you. Move on to powerful Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, two of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls that are well worth stopping to snap a photo of. In the evening, retreat back to your hotel or perhaps stay out and search once more for the northern lights. (B)
The morning is yours to explore the wonders of Skaftafell National Park. Here black sand dunes roll up towards volcanic peaks, creating vistas that can take your breath away. You may spot various species of birds, as this is a particular hotspot for them, along with elusive Arctic foxes if you’re very lucky. After Skaftafell, move on to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. This stunning lagoon can be explored with a Zodiac boat tour, or by kayak or amphibian boat. If you prefer, simply take a stroll along one of the black-sand beaches, threading your way between the stranded icebergs. (B)
This morning, check out of your hotel and head for the Blue Lagoon*. Here you can plunge into the warm, healing waters of this incredible geothermal pool. Speak to a Regent specialist about upgrading your package to enjoy spa treatments, meals in the restaurant or even an in-water massage. Return your car and board your flight back to the UK. (B)
