The mountains and fjords of the Vesterålen archipelago in Northern Norway are a nature lovers’ paradise; by day white-tailed eagles and seals compete for herring in the frozen waters and by night the northern lights swirl over towering snow-capped peaks and islets.
On this program, designed with photography in mind, join guesthouse host and nature photographer Ian on a wildlife discovery on the edge of the Arctic. This itinerary is ideal for northern lights seekers looking to get off the beaten track and explore all that this stunning archipelago has to offer.
Fly to Harstad/Narvik Airport in Evenes and transfer to Ringstad Sjøhus – a warm and welcoming traditional wooden guesthouse on the edge of the fjord, surrounded by islets and mountains. After dinner, meet the photographer for tips and hints on capturing the aurora borealis before heading out on a northern lights hunt. (D)
Enjoy a nature photography workshop, learning skills to capture wildlife and landscapes in the arctic light, before joining a boat safari in search of white-tailed eagles. Whales, seals and sea otters are also regularly sighted. Venture out after dinner for another attempt to capture the flickering ribbons of the northern lights. (B,L,D)
Before sunrise is the best time to search for Norway’s elusive moose. Join the photographer and guide on an early morning safari to search for the giant beasts before donning snowshoes for a trek to Vetten. Here, snow-covered panoramas from the top of the mountain are picture-perfect. After dinner, await the northern lights around an open fire. (B,L,D)
Join a local guide on a half-day minibus tour of the archipelago, learning about life in this isolated part of Northern Norway. The sightseeing tour is specially designed to visit top viewpoints and photogenic locations. (B,L,D)
After breakfast, transfer back the Harstad/Narvik Airport in Evenes for your onward flight. (B)
